The Samui Half Marathon on 5 June 2022 opened the Bangkok Airways Boutique Series 2022, with 5 km, 10 km and 21 km races.
The Bangkok Airways Samui Half Marathon is a road race run by the airline, and the 2022 edition opened its Boutique Series for that year. The airline had held running events on Koh Samui before: a marathon in 2012, which Pattaya Mail described as the third of its kind, and a half marathon in the 2018 Boutique Series. Its stated aim is to promote sports tourism on the island.
Races are offered at three levels, a 5 km fun run, a 10 km mini-marathon and a 21 km half marathon, so beginners and experienced runners can enter on the same morning. The airline publishes the rules for each year on its press pages, and those are the place to check distances and categories. The 2022 race was a return to the calendar after the pandemic years, one of several sporting events on the island in the first half of the year.
The island's main road race returned after it was cancelled during COVID-19.
